Why Granite Countertops Aren’t a Trend…

In the world of fashion, trends seem to be cyclical. In the 80′s you might not have thought you’d ever see bellbottoms again, but the early 2000′s rolled around and it seemed that bellbottoms were all the rage again. When it comes to the remodeling world, some trends are highly unlikely to make their way back around again.

Take shag carpet for example. Shag was in during the 70′s; people were not only putting shag carpet on the floors, but on the walls too. Could you image installing shag on your living room walls today? Mostly likely not!

When you think of “trends” you probably think of something that is currently popular, but bound to fade out and disappear for good. Formica was once the popular countertop material to install in your home. However, today most homeowners are removing their old formica counters in favor of natural stone counters, wood, stainless steel and other materials.

Natural stones like granite are very popular trends for your bathroom and kitchen countertops. But let’s be honest, some materials that are popular right now will eventually fade. My guess is that stainless steel is going to be one of those trends. Stainless is great because it’s easy to clean, but it seems more suited for a morgue or veterinarian’s office than your kitchen. That is unless your name is Hannibal.

Granite has probably been the most popular natural stone being installed for the last 5-10 years. I’m sure there has been someone who’s said that it’s just a trend. However, I’m positive that granite countertops are here to stay and here’s why.

  • Granite is extremely durable, providing homeowners with a beautiful countertop that will last a lifetime.
  • Granite offers a wide selection of colors and patterns; no two stones are exactly alike either!
  • Granite is heat and scratch resistant; we’ve made a countertop that’s even stain resistant.
  • Granite can be fabricated to meet certain dimensions, angles and edging finishes you’d prefer.
  • Granite is eco-friendly; people tend to prefer natural products for their homes.

These are just a few reasons why granite is here to stay. But it’s not like you need someone to tell you that they’re an ideal material for your countertops. Granite is a beautiful, natural product that homeowners love the first time they see it.
